SUPER CONGRESS: We Found the Money!

The Raw Deal that America got from the debt ceiling debate led to the creation of a twelve-member Super Congress who are charged with cutting 1.5 trillion dollars from the American economy.

We can't cut our way out of this crisis – revenue has to be part of the solution. Cuts to Medicare, our social safety net or allowing our infrastructure to continue to crumble are not the answer. The real solution is to make Wall Street, wealthy CEOs and big corporations pay their fair share.

Will you stand with us, and demand the Super Congress abide by the following principles?

Super Congress petition

We, the undersigned, demand that our elected representatives represent our families and everyday people—not the interests of Wall Street, corporations and the wealthy CEOs that run them, during the upcoming “Super Congress” negotiations about the future of our economy.

We demand that any Senator or Congressperson serving on the Super Congress abide by the following principles:

  • Make the Wealthy and Wall Street Pay Their Fair Share: Tax the wealthy and corporate profits at rates necessary for our nation’s strength and security instead of cutting vital public goods such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, infrastructure, public safety, environmental regulation, public education, housing, and services for the elderly and disabled. Start by ending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, demand that Wall Street and the big banks pay their taxes like the rest of America, and close corporate tax loopholes.

  • Build the Real Economy, Tax the Wall Street Casino: After crashing our economy and getting a public bailout, Wall Street and the big banks are back to wild speculation instead of responsible lending. It’s time to follow England and other countries in adding a small financial speculation fee on every Wall Street transaction and use that money to invest in job creation and building the real economy.

  • Make Job Creation the #1 Priority: America is not broke, but our economy is broken. Target additional revenue for investment in public services and critical infrastructure that will create jobs and stimulate private investment in job creation. Serious living wage job creation is the fastest way to fix the economy.

Our future depends on your action.

The undersigned.

Don't ask, Demand!

"Give their fair share"? That's like asking a criminal to please pay back what they have stolen. All that the banksters and wall street gained was acquired via theft and fraud. Don't ask, DEMAND. Send them to prison just like you would any of the 99%, for commiting much lessor crimes.

To hell with taxes, give us back our homes! Restore our dignity.

Right away this negative reaction to Mitt's comment strikes me as false. While I did not hear his speech, I cannot comment fully. If we take that one comment about corporations being people, too, he is right. You cannot take that comment literally. He has ran a corporation and HIRED people. Corporations HIRE people. America needs JOBS. We need to get the corporations out of the investment game and into the hiring game. Stop shipping jobs overseas, too. Help small businesses to thrive. The government is a corporation. I don't agree with everything corporations do and are allowed to do, the point is that taxes raised on corporations only makes it more difficult to HIRE people. Solution: We all pay the same amount of tax. Let's stop playing the me against you and me against business, two-party game. It hasn't worked. Limit corporations involvement in Wall Street. STOP the GREED. Corporations securitized our homes. Then stole our homes for their own gain. I hate that!! Give us our homes back!! We are tired of camping. What few in America do NOT know is that people are CORPORATIONS, too!! We are corporate officers of THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA INCORPORATED. They steal our identities and apply for credit in our names every day! When Americans figure that out, there will really be hell to pay!!
