Showdown on K Street

The Showdown on K Street was a huge success – exposing the big bank lobbyists who have hijacked our democracy and taking our message to Members of Congress challenging them to side with people over Wall Street campaign contributions.

The financial reform bill passed thought the Senate and now the fight begins to ensure the bill that makes it to the President’s desk is good for the American people.  Financial Industry lobbyists are already working to weaken the bill in conference committee.

So, the work moves forward, trying to reclaim our democracy from K Street and put it back in the hands of the people.  Our broken economy will only begin to put people back work if we take our democracy back from the big banks and their K Street lobbyists.

VIDEOS from the K Street Showdowns

K Street Showdowns kicked off on Sunday afternoon with two back-to-back actions--first on Bank of America's Deputy General Counsel for Bank Regulatory and Public Policy, Gregory Baer, and the second at Peter Scher, Executive VP of Government Relations of JPMorgan Chase.

On Monday morning National People's Action and SEIU pay a visit big bank lobbyist Tony Podesta's office, whose clients include Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Cintas, Corrections Corp of America, and BP.

Nixon-Peabody and their sister organization the Institute for Responsible Housing Preservation (IRHP) are two of the most pro big landlord, big developer, anti-tenant organizations in the country. Nixon Peabody represents landlords like Greg Pearlman, who specialize in speculating on low-income family housing, and is guilty of neglecting those properties and leaving them in disrepair. Nixon-Peabody and the IHRP are actively lobbying against provisions in the Barney Frank Preservation Bill (HR 4868), like the provision to allow tenants first right to buy their own buildings, that the majority of Section 8 tenants and advocates across the country support.
