Cincinnati Herald: New foreclosure numbers prompt WIN call for action

The non-profit regional housing advocacy group, Working In Neighborhoods (WIN), reported that Hamilton County experienced only a 1 percent increase in foreclosures in 2009. While this figure represents a slower growth than in previous years, WIN officials Tuesday at officesin South Cumminsville urged business and government leaders to take action to bring an end to the foreclosure crisis. According to WIN’s study, “The Failing Economy = The Continuing Crisis Next Door,” 2,640 Hamilton County residents lost their homes to foreclosure last year. This figure is a decrease of 14.45 percent from 2008. However, new foreclosure filings rose 1 percent, representing a continued trend of increasingly distressed homeowners in our community.
A total of 5,679 Hamilton County homes were listed in the first week’s Sheriff Listing of the Monday edition of the Cincinnati Court Index in 2009.
