Right now a small group of elected officials in Washington DC are debating who will pay for our broken economy: Wall Street and the 1%, or YOU.

“Super Committee” members are looking for solutions to our revenue crisis. But how can they solve anything when they are refusing to face the fact that we’re in a revenue crisis?

Wall Street bankrupted our communities yet too many of our elected officials want to protect their friends on Wall Street by making cuts to programs we depend on for healthcare, education, and retirement which help create the good jobs we need.

I support the Financial Speculation Tax introduced by Senator Harkin and Representative DeFazio that taxes Wall Street trading at far below 1% and will raise $50 billion dollars per year in revenue. The Super Committee cannot ask everyday Americans like myself to keep swallowing job killing cuts to programs we’ve invested in, like Social Security, and programs we depend on like education, housing, and other community services. We need revenue and jobs, not cuts!

They are asking us, the 99%, to make deep sacrifices we can’t afford, instead of asking corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share. We know that we cannot cut our way out of this crisis.

And we know the money is on Wall Street. We need to up the pressure on our elected officials and the Super Committee before November 23.
